How to Observe Fire Prevention Week

  • Be Prepared

The purpose of Fire Prevention Week is to bring awareness to the risk of death in case of a fire and provide educational resources to people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic status in order to keep everyone safe.

  1. Make an Escape Plan
  2. Change the batteries in your smoke detector regularly, use daylight savings time as a reminder
  3. Be mindful of where you put your space heaters, keep them away from curtains and other loose fabrics around the home
  4. In the kitchen, never leave food cooking unattended and don’t pour water on a grease fire. Put a lid on it to smother it, turn off the burner and let it cool.
  5. Always, watch the placement of candles and never leave them lit while you are not home

When in doubt, just get out and call 911!
